Key Defects in Jeep Vehicles

1. Transmission Problems

• Many Jeep models, including Cherokee, Wrangler, and Grand Cherokee, have reported rough shifting, delayed acceleration, gear slipping, and in severe cases, complete transmission failure.

• Certain 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models were recalled due to transmission issues, which could shift into neutral unexpectedly, posing safety risks

2. Engine Stalling and Failures

• Problems include unexpected engine shutdowns, stalling at low speeds, overheating, oil leaks, or sudden loss of power.

• Some Jeep Compass and Wrangler models experienced fuel pump or hybrid control failures leading to unsafe engine behavior

3. Electrical System Malfunctions

• Common issues involve flickering dashboard lights, failing infotainment screens, software glitches, non-starting vehicles, or malfunctioning sensors.

• In 2022, thousands of Wrangler 4xe models were recalled due to software glitches impacting engine operation and safety

4. Death Wobble and Steering/Suspension Issues

• Seen mainly in Wranglers and Gladiators, the “death wobble” causes violent shaking of the steering wheel at highway speeds, often due to loose suspension or steering components.

• Although Jeep issued fixes, many vehicles continue to experience this problem, which critically affects driving safety

5. Water Leaks and Body/Interior Defects

• Leaks due to faulty seals or gaskets can damage interiors and electrical systems.

• Interior defects, sunroof leaks, and misaligned panels compromise comfort and value and may qualify for Lemon Law claims

6. Safety-Critical Issues

• Defects that pose immediate danger, like malfunctioning brakes, airbags, steering failures, or ignition problems, are particularly strong grounds for Lemon Law evaluation

Additional Considerations

• Frequency of Repairs: Vehicles typically become eligible for a Lemon Law claim if two or more attempts fail to fix a severe safety defect or four or more attempts fail to resolve non-safety recurring issues.

• Out-of-Service Days: Cumulative out-of-service periods exceeding 30 days during the warranty may also trigger Lemon Law eligibility

• Documentation: Keeping detailed repair records, service invoices, and correspondence with the manufacturer is critical for establishing a claim under California’s Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act
